Spoilish question for folks who are familiar with the New Gods [Spoilers]

The internet tells me that Big Barda has been killed off in order to piss off Mr. Miracle.

Isn't that kind of like killing off Superman in order to piss off Lois?

Maybe it's because I don't keep up with a lot of DC, don't read absolutely everything, and am a relatively recent reader at that, but I've seen Barda doing interesting cool stuff all over the place. Mr. Miracle, not so much. I was under the impression that she was the big-deal hero out of that pairing. That she'd have the better vengeful wrath vibe? No?

(Yes, yes, the Superman/Lois example was a bad one, but I couldn't think of another heroic couple where my perception of the two parties and their abilities/standing was so different. Yes, I do know that Mr. Miracle is himself a hero, not simply a spouse/supporting character. :))

Well, Mr. Miracle did headline his own book, which lasted seven issues longer than the rest of Kirby's Fourth World and got revived by Steve Englehart and Marshall Rogers. He was in Justice League International for a few years (longer than Barda was in the JLA, but maybe not by much), and that led to another short-lived solo title. Plus, as an escape artist, he arguably has a more versatile skill set.

Also, to go back to the Supes/Lois comparison, which story would you rather read: one where a vengeful Superman goes after Lois' killer, or one where a vengeful Lois goes after Superman's? :)

However, even when Scott was in the JUstice League and Barda wasn't it was allways made fairly clear who wore the BATTLE PANTS!!! [strike a kirbyesque pose] in that relationship.

While Barda tried from time to time to act like a prim and proper earth-wife, she almost always ended up failing and then blowing stuff up with the mega-rod.
Which is what she wanted to do in the first place

Hero goes off to avenge the death of his (invariably his) lover = So old, so tired. This is the archetypal Women in Refrigerators plot.

Hero's lover goes off to avenge his death and not about to let her lack of super powers get in the way = original and cool.

I've got to say I'd read the Lois book also--with her investigative reporting skills, she would be one scary opponent!
